Only death’s forever

Only death’s forever

Secret Lovers.

This semester I’m taking Wills & Trusts, so it’s a natural by-product that I’ve got death on my mind. People generally don’t like the reminder of their mortality, but anyone with a date of birth will ultimately have a date of death. Pablo Neruda famously musedabout the amount of time a person spends dying, and if the legal system is brought into play, it can take several years for…

Bittersweet

Few things are as universally loved as chocolate, given the myriad of forms it takes: liquid, solid, as a topping, as dip, you get the idea. Its ubiquitous consumption around the globe leads one to conclude that those involved in its production would naturally also be exposed to final finished product. In all my globe-trotting, I’ve managed to find the humble chocolate bar in most grocery stores,…

The first semester no one knows what they’re doing (those that say they do are making themselves feel better…

Almost doesn’t count

Almost doesn’t count

Trigger warning: Rape will be discussed below.

This second semester has been particularly brutal because throughout the span of the semester, I haven’t had a single week that’s been as my weeks were originally scheduled. What this means is I’m basically operating in a more sleep deprived state, and I did what I figured was bound to happen eventually: I hopped on Bart to head home after class,…

Back to the Roots

Back to the Roots

Photograph: Gregorio Borgia/AP

Wandering to the store to buy more water cleaner for the fish I have, I came across Back to the Roots.  They’re a neat company that sprung up across the bay, with two products thus far: an AquaFarm and Mushroom Kit. As a kid who grew up with access to a working farm, I intuitively grasped that separating ourselves from the natural world is impossible. As Henry David…
